I wanted to create my first post to introduce myself and my work to the world. Initially my goal is to just share my ideas with others, gain insight from other working artists and to learn where I might best fit within the creative community. Later, I hope to promote and sell my work.

My work focus at the moment is on printmaking. I acquired a large press about three years ago and I have fun experimenting with new ways to use it. I also love to draw, paint and photograph. Sometimes I find it rather hard to focus on just one medium as all things creative capture my interest! If you’d like to know more about my background and interests, please view my About page and my Artist Statement.

Most my work begins with some type of travel experience. This inspires an idea. Then I use my photographs, and I take many, to help guide my sketches and development. From here I can explore lots of ideas quickly. This can also inform more research in the form of reading or image searches. Once I have a solid concept I make a more refined drawing, sometimes even using technology to help formalize the design. The final idea is transferred to some type of material for relief carving.

Carving is time consuming, but very therapeutic. Depending on material, different tools are used. Once done it is inked up and run through the press. Voila! A print is born.

This print process, which includes 10 separate Linoleum blocks was inspired by Spanish tile designs and my love of nature. I titled the sequence, “SymmeTREE of Life.”
