The community chalk art project at Esther Short Park this Sunday was another hot one! The Vancouver Farmer’s Market, brought lots of foot traffic. I selected a location and area of concrete between the Slocum House and the playground, however the direct sunlight made for rather hot working conditions.
I am so thankful that I have a supportive group of friends and family that came out to help and encourage me. My goal is to ride my bike to my selected location with a plan, and the supplies ready to engaged others and to create. Laura Schroeder rode with me from my home in Brush Prairie and helped me with the basic layout. She is a great friend and cycling sister who helped me a lot with the first public chalk art project in early July! See post: “United We Create.”
I would like give a shout out to my sister in law, Barb Pellico. She was actively involved for most of the two hours it took to execute this project. My brother, Matt showed up and made the water skiing image. Another cycling friend, Patty Holt, joined to lend a hand. My good friends, Brett Hope and Chelsey Pacanins brought their new golden retriever puppy, Waffles! Brett had to quickly execute the bike image, because Waffles was anxious to keep moving!
Mostly I am happy to say I also had a lot of spontaneous participation from those we could encourage to join us. I am sorry that I don’t remember all the names, but most were young kids. Please let me know if you helped and want to be added to this post. I do remember the last group Ezra, Adam and their mom, Val. This threesome had lots of talent to add to the final design. Ezra did an amazing job on the camping scene. His younger brother made the ice cream cone and Val was great at helping clean up areas or add needed details. The design evolved as the time went on and some areas may have changed or received embellishments. I hope everyone had fun and can appreciate what teamwork can do!
Stay tuned for the next chalk art location coming in September!
