My home is fairly plain on the outside and I thought a mural could add some interest. Rather than paint directly on my cedar siding, I decided to attach the finished art via a metal frame. I have always enjoyed how rich a painting looks when done on wood, but I had never undertaken such a large scale project. I used a 4 x 8 sheet of plywood to create what I call the “Garden Mural.” Positioned to face my vegetable garden, it is broken into five segments. The middle three represent rain, sun, and soil. The most important features for growing good food. The larger two side segments showcase the bounty of the garden. Now when I drive into my home or work in my garden, I am greeted by the bright colors of this work. By installing in a frame, I have the option to change out this mural in the future.
The gallery below shows my process from concept to completion, including the many steps in between. I even used my own harvest for image inspiration.
